In 1862, during his journey through Spain, Hans Christian Andersen seizes the chance to visit the city of Tangier in Morocco, a mere 40 kilometers as the crow flies from the southernmost point of Spain. A visit to Africa, as he calls it.

In the exotic city of Granada, Spain Hans Christian Andersen encounters his muse in the dark of evening, in the form of a young Roma woman.

Andersen and his travel companion Jonas Collin stayed in Granada from October 6 to October 21, 1862.

Nature Opera is an opera that resonates with children, encompassing the full spectrum of operatic traditions; from overtures and arias to sung dialogues, recitatives, and choruses. These are elements unfamiliar to most children (and many adults).
