'Vuestros ojos' is a Spanish melancholic song from the Baroque era, found in a 1610 collection of songs titled "A Musicall Banquet" edited by Robert Dowland (1591 - 1641).
The surname may sound familiar; Robert was the son of John Dowland (1563 - 1626), one of the famous musicians of the time. John Dowland was also the 'father' of the melancholic wave that was sweeping Europe at the time, and we can consider 'Vuestros ojos' as a melancholic pop song and part of that fashion, but added a Spanish temperament!
This version by Via Artis Konsort was recorded live in concert at 'Filosoffen, Odense Denmark in 2021. The concert was produced by Ballhaus.
Spanish lyrics:
Vuestros ojos tienen
d'Amor no sé qué,
que me yelan, me roban,
me hieren, me matan.
Que me matan,
me matan ¡A fe!
¿Por qué me miráis con tal aflición,
y al mi coraçón me aprisionáis?.
Que, si vos me miráis,
yo os acusaré.
