The Ballhaus association produces performing arts (in the broadest sense of the term) with roots planted in the classical and acoustic music tradition. The purpose of the association is inspired by the New Zealand music sociologist Christoffer Small's thoughts on music as a social and socializing activity; Musicking rather than music!

Site-responsive concerts are an exciting format where the music responds to everything that characterizes the performance site; spatial conditions, light conditions, acoustics, historical context, function of the place, etc. The music thus relates to the place of performance, and the place itself becomes an active part of the musical expression.

Fuego de Dios

'Fuego de Dios' is one of the so-called Dance songs that were the talk of the town in Spain at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The songs found themselves in a fertile cross-field between art and popular music, and initially caused indignation among the established cultural elite. Dance rhythms such as the zarabanda (sarabande) and the chacona (chaconne) were temporarily prohibited by law; playing, dancing or singing a zarabanda or chacona could lead to up to 4 years of hard labor at the galleys!
